A Tirolean Teaches Canadians How to Yodel - (17.02.2010)


He is an institution and a symbol at the Austria House in Whistler Mountain: Adi Unterberger. Born in Innsbruck, Mr. Unterberger emigrated to Canada in 1960, where he is yodeling for all its worth and co-founded the Tirolean Ski Club in Whistler Mountain.

Andreas Matt: Tirol’s Hope for the Ski Cross Competitions - (17.02.2010)


February 21st is going to be a big day for the Tirolean Andreas Matt: it is the day he will he will compete in the first Olympic Ski Cross competition ever. As acting world champion, Andreas Matt is a hot contender for a gold medal. For Matt these are very special Olympic Games as Ski Cross is the only new sport at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver. Although the Ski Cross competitions take place towards the end of the Games, the likeable Tirolean insisted on being there for the opening ceremony. Matt used his stay in Vancouver to check out Cypress Mountain, the venue for the freestyle skiing and snowboarding events, and train on Whistler Mountain. For Matt, Ski Cross is a good example of an alpine winter sports that has great a great attraction potential for young people. In the interview Matt also talks about how he is going to spend the next days until the race on February 21st.

America’s Vice-President Joseph Biden is excited about the INTERSKI Congress - (17.02.2010)


The INTERSKI Delegation, who came to Whistler Mountain to promote the 2011 INTERSKI Congress in St. Anton am Arlberg, met with Vice-President Joseph Biden who loved the idea of a world summit meeting of snow sports instructors.

At the Zukunftsstiftung event in Whistler Mountain Innsbruck University chancellor Karlheinz Töchterle was able to forge important contacts with Canadian educational and research facilities. Innsbruck University is a major player in the Tirolean environmental field and thus has a special status.

The "Tiroler Zukunftsstiftung" held a highly successful presentation at the Austria House in Whistler Mountain in the setting of the Winter Olympic Games. Harald Gohm, managing director of the "Tiroler Zukunftsstiftung", was pleased to welcome many system partners and people with an interest in environmentally friendly Tirolean energy and to provide Tirolean companies with the opportunity of presenting the latest technology to an interested audience.
