- Background stories about the promotional Tirol Nights


Ser Miang Ng, Vice President of the IOC, Gian-Franco Kasper, FIS President and IOC Delegate for the YOG, Pernilla Wiberg, IOC Member, Karl Stoss, President of the Austrian Olympic Committee, and Peter Bayer, Managing Director of YOG in Innsbruck, met in Whistler Mountain to talk shop. Josef Margreiter, CEO of the Tirol Tourist Board, headed the discussions, which numerous guests attended on Wednesday at the Austria House. The YOG logo was also presented for the first time this evening.

In her second Olympic Games, Nina Reithmayer from Innsbruck managed to capture a silver medal in the women’s single luge. With her superb ride at Whistler’s Sliding Center the likeable Tirolean prevented the German team from taking another clean podium sweep, and continued Tirol’s tradition of silver medals in luge. Tirolean day in the Austria House at Whistler Mountain – and the wealth of medals for Austria reached its first zenith. Austrian competitors won two medals yesterday. Downhill bronze for Elisabeth Görgl and a gold medal for luger brothers Wolfgang and Andreas Linger. Plenty to celebrate for the Tirolean delegation in the Austria House.

"Innsbruck is the ideal venue for the Youth Olympic Games 2012", as Gian-Franco Kasper again emphasized in Whistler Mountain. "The requirements in Innsbruck are good. It only needs a couple of minor adaptations, e.g. the jump in Seefeld. The Tirol is well equipped thanks to the fact that Olympic Games have twice been held in Innsbruck", said Kasper.

The young Tirolean ski jumper Andreas Kofler has joined the ranks of renowned supporters – among them Kathy Kreiner und Nancy Greene from Canada and Rosi Mittermaier from Germany – of the 2012 Youth Olympic Games in Innsbruck.
